News update: San Francisco has joined an animus brief urging the Supreme Court to stop the Trump administration from deploying the National Guard in Chicago and other cities. City Attorney David Chiu has vowed to sue if troops are sent here.

The Tenderloin, one of San Francisco’s most violent neighborhoods, has no anti-violence program like the ones that have shown results in other parts of the city. Eleni Balakrishnan explores the politics and funding of violence prevention.

The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a plan for a city-owned public bank two years ago, and now D9 Sup. Jackie Fielder wants to make it happen. Xueer Lu has details on what a public “green” bank would do.

Do catch up with Io Yeh Gilman‘s excellent reporting on yesterday’s proposed amendments to the city’s upzoning plan. Over the next two weeks, the supes will meet with the mayor and the state to finalize the plan before a Nov. 3 vote.
