Joe Eskenazi ponders the selection process for D4 supervisor, which he’s been following since the recall of Joel Engardio. Read Joe’s commentary on politics-as-game-show—and his conclusion that “no matter whom he picks, Lurie can probably manage to avoid picking the third District 4 supervisor to go to federal prison.” 

A federal court has ordered the U.S. Department of Justice to improve conditions in ICE holding cells in San Francisco, ruling that detainees must have prompt medical attention, mattresses, blankets, and basic necessities. But the ruling allows ICE to hold detainees for 72 hours in the makeshift cells.
