Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon! Here’s the latest:

SCRAP, the 50-year-old nonprofit, offers teachers and the public free and extremely low-cost recycled…well, everything: Maps, art supplies, vintage photos, fabric, tennis balls, and endless bins of bits and bobs. Marina Newman‘s got the story of SCRAP’s glorious, messy history, and its urgent search for a new home.

Gustavo Hernandez has a fascinating interview with photographer Robert Nickelsberg about his images of the Salvadoran warโ€”many of them undeveloped for decadesโ€”and the power of photography to reveal complicated truths. Nickelsberg will be speaking at CCSF in the Mission on April 24..

Our coverage of the 16th St. plaza crackdown continues. Today, a worker at the Hotel Kailash painted over graffiti, and two cops chatted with DPW workers.
