Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

Would you vote for the funk vocalist? The policeman/ventriloquist? A hardcore gang prosecutor? California is the only state where candidates get to write their own ballot designations, and Joe Eskenazi explains why it matters if a wealthy investment banker calls himself a small business owner.

And now fourteen actual small business owners have challenged mayoral candidate Mark Farrell for describing himself as one of them. The group’s letter to the Department of Elections says Farrell’s designation “offends the sensibilities of any true small business owner in San Francisco.โ€

Meet the man behind Rhea’s Deli and Market, who says he never wanted to become “the cliche of Korean people and corner stores.” James Choi tells Mission Local why he decided to close the store on Wednesdays, no matter the demand for his sandwiches.

You can meet up with our reporters this week, or email them with questions for the candidates they’re covering. We look forward to hearing from you.

More soon,

Sara
