Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

Mariana Garcia reports that SFUSD superintendent Maria Su told a crowd of 200 parents and staff last night she had “no intention” of cutting programs for immigrant students—despite the budget showing deep cuts to newcomer education.

Take a look at Joe Eskenazi‘s analysis yesterday of how SFUSD has been undermining programs for newcomer students, and see what you think.

Students from high schools across the city joined a rally in Dolores Park this afternoon, as part of nationwide anti-ICE walkouts and business shutdowns. Clara-Sophia Daly and Béatrice Vallières are posting updates on the protest.

In related news, the class-action lawsuit temporarily halting arrests at Northern California immigration courthouses and forcing ICE to improve conditions at its S.F. holding cells could go national. Alice Finno writes that a judge is expected to make a decision in March.

More soon,

Sara
