Today from Mission Local

Good morning!

We’re starting a new series today in which we follow each major mayoral candidate for a week, with dispatches and analysis from the campaign trail. First up: Mayor Breed, just back from China, working from home.

The city attorneyโ€™s office will ask a judge to toss out four teens’ claims of civil rights violations during mass arrests at the Dolores Park hill bomb last year.ย 117 young skaters and bystanders, most of them minors, were kettled by police and detained incommunicado for hours; the city is defending the cops’ actions.

Back story: During the chaotic events of July 8, 2023, reporter Joe Rivano Barros stayed on the scene into the wee hours of the morning, and Mission Local’s team followed up with cops, skaters, parents, neighbors, and lawyers. Read our in-depth coverage here.

And don’t miss Beth Winegarner‘s story on how San Francisco’s unclaimed dead are cared for.

More soon,

Sara
