Good afternoon!
It’s Day 2 of the teachers strike, and Mayor Daniel Lurie joined the bargaining teams, as did the mayor’s policy chief Kunal Modi, to try to unstick major sticking points. Modi was there to assess the cost of healthcare offersโafter eleven months of negotiations, did the district not know what healthcare would cost? Follow our live updates.
Meanwhile, Mayor Lurie’s proposed “sobering center” may contravene state laws and could expose the city to โvery high legal risk,โ according to a Feb. 9 memo from the city attorney’s office obtained byย Mission Local.

Oscar Palma reports that D9 supervisor Jackie Fielder had called on the city attorney to subpoena Podell about his promise.
