Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

The San Francisco teachers union is preparing for a strike, after negotiations with the district over healthcare, raises, and programs for students stalled. Sarah Hopkins writes that the teachers strike, which could begin as early as next week, would be the first in the city in 47 years.

Eleni Balakrishnan reports on disturbing social media posts from Wilfred Tortolero Arriechi, the alleged killer of social worker Alberto Rangel. The posts show an apparent mental unraveling, and a photo Tortolero Arriechi took of his Ward 86 visit summary with a knife piercing through it.

The interim director of the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts has left after three weeks, saying that the center “cannot afford to pay” for his part-time contract. Oscar Palma writes about fiscal trouble at the cultural hub.

And in other Mission news, Kevin Ortiz is stepping down as president of the Latino Democratic Club.

More soon,

Sara
