Good afternoon!

Did you know that our managing editor and columnist Joe Eskenazi is an Eagle Scout? Read his commentary on Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth‘s desperate attempt to cancel “woke” Scouting merit badges—on the eve of a regional war.

A couple of features you may have missed this weekend: Claire Wu‘s in-depth interview with the legendary Tenderloin filmmaker Rob Nilsson, and Nicholas David‘s long talk with the incorrigibly friendly Ahmed Riad, of the Simple Pleasures coffeehouse. Great conversations with really interesting people.

Oh, and some nice photos of the Chinese New Year parade by Jay A. Martin. Check out those kids dressed as mahjong tiles.

More soon,

Sara
