Good afternoon!

Yesterday evening, Mayor Daniel Lurie’s police security detail was attacked at the edge of the Tenderloin. Eleni Balakrishnan was right there, talking with the cop who’d been knocked down. See her photos and a video of the altercation.

Earlier, at City Hall, Mayor Lurie and Board of Supervisors president Rafael Mandelman proposed three ballot measures to expand the powers of San Francisco’s mayor and city administrator–and to make it more difficult to put new ballot measures before voters. Io Yeh Gilman has the details.

And the Department of Building Inspection has stopped unpermitted excavation at the Double Time gas station on 30th and Mission streets. Nicholas David reports that the notice of violation may also doom a shwarma counter planned for the gas station.

Hey, mark your calendars now for March 19, when Mission Local presents an event with reporter Eleni Balakrishnan and a panel to explore the mystery of the Tenderloin’s lack of green spaces. At the Tenderloin Museum, 6:30PM.

More soon,

Sara
