Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

It’s a public-private loop: Mayor Daniel Lurie has created a new government position, the Director of Strategic Partnerships, and hired SPUR treasurer Cynthia Wong to oversee raising private money for public programs. Wong’s job will be paid for by a grant from Tipping Point, the nonprofit founded by Lurie.

Developers presented plans for a 36-story housing tower in South Beach to the Planning Commissionโ€”though under state law, the commission will not be able to approve or deny it. The project would include 260 units of housing, and some neighbors said they’re worried about traffic and noise.

About 100 faith leaders gathered at City Hall yesterday to begin a 24-hour fast condemning ICE‘s “violent and miltaristic” actions. After silent meditation and prayer, they continued with a rally.

More soon,

Sara
