Good morning!

In a new payroll problem, the SF school district failed to send this week’s check to hundreds of its lowest-paid workers. Lunch ladies, janitors, and clerks instead got an email saying they’d be paid later in the month. “I was counting on this money,” says a clerk. โ€œIโ€™m just sick of all this.โ€ย

The racial disparities in police use of force skyrocketed in the last quarter of 2022, when cops used force against Black people 25 times more than they did against white people. But when the SFPD made its quarterly report to the Police Commission, the department didn’t mention this fact.

If you missed it, read our live coverage of public comment at the Police Commission meeting about the mass arrests of teenagers at the “hill bomb” skateboarding event last week. “I’m embarrassed for our city,โ€ a commissioner said.

And finally, raise a toast to Anchor Brewing, which is closing. The great steam beer, writes Joe Eskenazi in his eulogy, “wasnโ€™t just madeย inย San Francisco. It was madeย byย San Francisco.

More soon,

Sara
