Good afternoon! Here’s the latest:

It’s a Catch-22 for many immigrants right now: Failure to show up at check-ins can lead to arrest—but they risk being arrested if they do show up. See our report on yesterday’s all-day protest that shut down a SOMA building where ICE, in an unusual move, had told immigrants to appear on the weekend.

For back story, see our timeline of recent ICE actions and related protests in San Francisco. And read how Mission businesses are preparing to protect their staff if ICE shows up.

Teresa Moore has a lovely review of video artist Yuan Goang-Ming’s ‘Everyday War at the Asian Arts Museum. Tip: Yuan’s also created a LED video installation piece that can only be seen at night, from outside the building, on Hyde Street.

And we’ve got a nice story about the Mission barber who grew up on the block where he now cuts hair. After his uncle was killed, Joe Guerra decided to become a barber and now runs The Mission’s Barbershop.

More soon,

Sara
