Jafet Santiago Diaz, the 25-year-old gay Colombian detained at an S.F. courthouse by ICE last week, was proceeding legally with his asylum case. But the government is using a new rule to imprison affirmative asylum seekers without bond until their cases are decided. Frankie Solinsky Duryea talks with Diaz’ friends and lawyers.

Who’s in charge of deploying the National Guard in California? Well, it’s in limbo: An appeals court paused a federal judge’s order returning control of the Guard to Gov. Gavin Newsom. The next hearing will be Tuesday. And it will be a busy weekend: Stay tuned for news from protests.

So why isn’t Mayor Daniel Lurie speaking out more loudly about Trump? Joe Eskenazi explains Lurie’s attempt to walk a tightrope between protecting the city and showing resistance.
