Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

What happens after a ballot measure passes? In the case of the 2020 vote to create independent oversight of the sheriff’s department, not much: It took nearly two years for the city to form an oversight board, and another year to hire an inspector general to oversee investigations. Now Mayor London Breed’s proposed budget could mean further delays, and more misconduct lawsuits.

Meanwhile, the city may face a costly lawsuit for mass arrests during the 2023 Dolores Park Hill bomb. A federal judge ruled that most of the civil rights claims made by teens against the SFPD could go forward.

Take a look at what supervisorial candidates said about Slowyuga in D11, more homeless housing in D3, and safe consumption sites in D9. Mission Local’s reporters are out in neighborhoods covering all the races, and you can meet them for coffee, email them with questions, or send them tips.

More soon,

Sara
