Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

Xueer Lu writes about the passionate group fighting to keep Parks & Rec from installing artificial grass on a Crocker Amazon ballfield. D11 Supervisor Chyanne Chen is being flooded with emails from both sides in the turf warsโ€”though she has little control over the process.

If you’ve looked at rents lately, you know: They’re crazy high. Over 13% higher than last year, in fact, with the average 1-bedroom now going for $3745 a monthโ€”and availability is down. What are tenants doing?

Tenants might need to wait a while for apartments close to the beach. Junyao Yang reports that a Houston-based developer has bought a church site in the Outer Sunset to turn into 8-story market-rate housing, but is looking for small businesses to fill the space while the city approves the plans.

Supervisor Connie Chan kicked off her campaign for Nancy Pelosi’s congressional seat as a “daughter of Chinatown,” pledging to support working families and to tax billionaires. Read Yujie Zhou on Chan’s endorsements, finances, and plans for the June primary.

More soon,

Sara
