Victoria Theatre: Chile to California: Surfing the Dream Wave

THE GRINGOS OF EL GRINGO, CHILE’S MOST FAMOUS WAVE
Considered the “Latin Pipeline” for its similarities to Hawai‘i, El Gringo is a perfect, challenging tubular wave that breaks just south of Alacrán Island in Arica. It was first discovered in the late 1970s by three Californian friends—surfers about whom virtually nothing was known. After years of searching, a Chilean documentarian uncovered their names, brought them back to Arica, and reconstructed their adventurous story.
