ODC Dance Commons: SEEDS Home Season Performance

Fertile Fields is a work in progress showcase from SEEDS teen hip hop dance company, directed by Jenelle Gaerlan and Rama Mahesh Hall. This showcase marks the end of one school year working together, training twice a week in styles such as House, Hip Hop, Popping, Breaking, Contemporary, as well as an introduction to Vogue. This performance shares how far SEEDS has come already in learning and paying homage to these dance lineages, while finding their own voice and expression within the depth of these dance forms. SEEDS are also encouraged to bring their own dance, movement, and personal histories into the process. This showcase shares the strength of the bonds SEEDS has created together.

The process is the journey, from the dance cypher to the theater stage. Fertile Fields is a snapshot of our journey, and an intimate thank you to the families of SEEDS for all the support, and for the encouragement from our communities.

SEEDS is a pre-professional teen hip hop/street dance company, training and guiding youth towards expressing their stories through their body and lifting their unique voices. Offered through ODC & Embodiment Project, the program is co-directed and mentored by Rama Mahesh Hall and Jenelle Gaerlan. The company receives technical training, opportunities to create and perform, and a company experience as they train and rehearse in a focused ensemble. After Summer break, SEEDS will continue in Fall 2024.
