Manny’s: The San Francisco Standard Presents: The Future of Housing

As San Francisco faces a state housing mandate, there are many unanswered questions about new state and local laws, how the city may change, and whether these changes will be enough to meet our housing needs.
On Aug. 24, The San Francisco Standard hosts a conversation with State Sen. Scott Wiener and District 7 Supervisor Myrna Melgar on the impacts of new legislation and what work still needs to be done to build an affordable and livable city for everyone.
Manny’s never turns away someone due to lack of funds. If you need a complimentary ticket, please email the title of the event and the word “grapefruit” to angelina@welcometomannys.com.

Her legislative priorities include reducing homelessness; increasing the availability of affordable housing and homeownership opportunities for San Franciscans; improving rent control protections for tenants; supporting small businesses, supporting the rights of workers, improving our public transportation infrastructure, reducing our city’s carbon footprint and expanding education opportunities for disadvantaged San Francisco youth and families.
About Sen. Scott Wiener:
Elected in November 2016 and reelected in 2020, Scott Wiener represents District 11 in the California State Senate. District 11 includes all of San Francisco, Broadmoor, Colma, and Daly City, as well as portions of South San Francisco.
In the Senate, he works to make housing more abundant and affordable, invest in our transportation systems, increase access to healthcare, meaningfully address climate change and the impacts of wildfires, reform our criminal justice system, reduce gun violence, reduce California’s high poverty rate, and safeguard and expand the rights of all communities, including immigrants and the LGBTQ community. He has authored 65 bills that have been signed into law. Among them are SB 35, a landmark law to expedite housing permits; SB 10, which provides a powerful tool for local governments to zone for more housing more quickly; and SB 886, which streamlines and accelerates student housing production across the state.
