Manny’s: Policing in San Francisco: Where do we go after the March 5 election?

March 13, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Panel event on post-election policing in san francisco featuring local criminal justice director, city supervisor, reporter, and assistant police chief.

The San Francisco Standard presents Policing in San Francisco: Where do we go after the March 5 election?

In the March 5 election, San Francisco voters approved Proposition E, giving police new latitude to use surveillance technology and conduct chases, and changing how the Police Commission conducts oversight. They rejected Proposition B, which would have set minimum police staffing levels tied to a future tax. And they OK’d Proposition F, which requires drug screening for some welfare recipients.

What real-world impact will these changes have in wake of the election?

These measures sparked great debate and passionate arguments on both sides. Join us as we analyze and interpret the election results. Why did voters approve or reject these measures? Will we see further attempts to take such measures directly to voters? This panel will be moderated by San Francisco Standard reporter Josh Koehn.
