A cityscape view of a large domed building with an adjacent courtyard, lined with trees and flagpoles, under a clear blue sky.

Along with electing America’s next commander-in-chief on Nov. 5, San Francisco voters will choose the city’s next mayor and decide the fates of crucial city and state ballot measures and heated supervisor races.

Want some extra insight into contentious races and confusing propositions?

Joe Garofoli is the San Francisco Chronicle’s senior political writer, covering national and state politics. He has worked at the Chronicle since 2000 and in Bay Area journalism since 1992, when he left the Milwaukee Journal. He regularly appears on Bay Area radio and TV talking politics; was the host of “It’s All Political,” the Chronicle’s political podcast; and is available to entertain at bar mitzvahs and First Communions. He is a graduate of Northwestern University and a proud native of Pittsburgh. Go Steelers!

Emily has reported across the West, from California to Utah to Montana, and got her start writing opinion columns for the Mercury News and the Daily Pennsylvanian. A Fremont native, Emily graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in English and French and taught English for a year in France.

Aldo Toledo is a city hall reporter with the San Francisco Chronicle covering the mayor and Board of Supervisors. He is a Venezuelan American from a family of longtime journalists. Raised in Texas, he studied journalism with a print news focus at the University of North Texas Mayborn School of Journalism, where he worked as News Editor for the North Texas Daily student newspaper.
