826 Valencia: Picture Book Workshop with Dave Eggers (Ages 10–12)

This class, for kids ages 10-12, allows students to create their own finished, professional-looking picture books. Over 8 weeks, the class will write, revise, and illustrate their own picture book. Newbery Medal-winner Dave Eggers will teach the class, which is loosely based on how he himself was taught in fifth grade, by his beloved teacher Mrs. Dunn. Students who would like to join the class should send a quick/funny note to Dave (in interest form).

The work will be serious, so students must commit to the 8 classes, and they should be ready to follow through. No homework, though! All work can be done in class. And duos are welcome! That is, if you are a writer and your friend is an illustrator, that works, too!

After registering, staff will reach out to offer a spot depending on eligibility and availability in the program. Our workshops are open to everyone, but we give priority to SFUSD students with a socio-economic need and hold spaces for students enrolled in our other programs.
