Because you just spent $3 on a cup of coffee. We know. We do it too. This neighborhood has really good coffee.
But we believe that you should know more about your community than just where the good coffee is. You should know where the good coffee is, and you should know that there’s been a gang skirmish going on for the last month. And you should know about the parks and the cell towers and restaurant health scores and the stories behind the health scores and how adorable the Mission High football team is.
It’s easier to sell coffee than news. Why? We don’t know. All we know is that we believe that helping you understand your neighborhood is an important thing – one that most news organizations don’t bother with anymore. We work on the weekends. Two weeks ago, when there was a shooting at 17th and Mission, we had a story up thirty minutes after it happened – before the police had even returned to the station.
Our goal is to become self-supporting. If you read us, and value the work that we do, you can do a few things:
You can advertise with us We get more than 75,000 unique views a month and 200,000 to 250,000 page views, most of them people who live in and love this neighborhood. In other words: your ideal customers.
You can buy one of our many fine products (our t-shirt, our zine, our iPhone app). All are excellent stocking stuffers, two are tangible goods, three will help you orient yourself around the neighborhood, and one will keep you from being naked.)
Or you can just donate.
Much love, and happy holidays,
Your neighborhood news nerds at Mission Loc@l
