Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

Mayor Lurie and his “pragmatic” policies were the toast of a forum hosted here by D.C.’s conservative American Enterprise Institute and its local partner, Neighbors for a Better San Francisco. Another favorite, writes Yujie Zhou, was DA Brooke Jenkins, who blasted local judges for making decisions “based in ideology and lack of competence.”

There’s a bonkers $8 million going to ballot measures in the June election. Kelly Waldron looks at who’s behind all the money, especially the competing propositions C and D. See which one the mayor is supporting.

Did you know that San Francisco has the second-lowest rate of immigrant legal representation in the state for its size? Clara-Sophia Daly reports on the problems of funding and access in our sanctuary city.

In other immigration news, the school district is closing the Mission Education Center, the city’s only elementary school program for Spanish-speaking newcomers.
