Good afternoon!

The city ethics commission grinds slowly: Today it released an audit showing Mark Farrell’s 2024 mayoral bid had “significant” violations of state and local campaign finance law. Joe Rivano Barros, who covered big money in the 2024 San Francisco races, reports.

The district attorney’s office filed a motion to keep Tony Shervaughn Phillips, the man who scuffled with Mayor Lurie’s security last week, in jail. Eleni Balakrishnan, who broke the original story, has details on Phillips’ past arrests, and the police account of the altercation.

Back story: The DA is criminally charging Phillips and another man they say was involved in the brawl. But videos show that the police officer serving as Lurieโ€™s bodyguard may have gotten physical first, and the police accountability agency is opening an investigation.

What will help S.F. business recover? While politicians mention the need to boost tourism, downtown nightlife, and police presence, the Excelsior has quietly held on post-pandemic, anchored by modest family-owned businesses. Read Xueer Lu‘s report from the “forgotten” neighborhood.

More soon,
