Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

Breaking: Just weeks after a Waymo killed bodega cat KitKat in the Mission, Waymo has confirmed that its vehicle hit a dog in the Western Addition.

Well, Mayor Daniel Lurie finally made a pick for D4 supervisor. Alan Wong, a Sunset native and former aide to progressive D4 supervisor Gordon Mar, was sworn in today. We’ll see how Wong, twice elected as a City College trustee with labor support, responds to Lurie’s upzoning and budget proposals.

Why Wong? If you want the back story, Joe Eskenazi reported on Saturday that another of Lurie’s finalists for the seat, Albert Chow,ย admitted he โ€œplain forgotโ€ย to file tax returns multiple years for his nonprofit.ย

And if you want more of the inside story on this and everything else in city politics, don’t miss the Joe & Joe show tomorrow at 7:30 PM at Manny’s. Joe Eskenazi and the Chron’s Joe Garofoli will get deep into the weeds discussing latest events. Tickets here.

In other news, Mariana Garcia has an important explainer on why San Francisco immigration courts have the biggest backlog of cases in the state. The years-long delays have put immigrantsโ€”and the few judges leftโ€”in an incredibly difficult situation.

More soon,

Sara
