Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

Earlier today, Mission Local asked Mayor Daniel Lurie‘s office and Wannong “Tiffany” Deng, one of the five shortlisted candidates for D4 supervisor, for comment on her skimpy voting record. Within the hour, Deng was no longer a candidate. Lurie has reassured community members that “we have a very thorough vetting process now.”

What will Supervisor Connie Chan‘s entrance into the race for Nancy Pelosi‘s seat mean for new ballot measures, the Great Highway, and upzoning? Joe Eskenazi analyzes the first competitive Congressional race in San Francisco since 1987.

Eleni Balakrishnan is following the murder trial of S.F. filmmaker and journalist Kevin Epps for the shooting death of his former brother-in-law, Marcus Polk, nearly a decade ago. Read about today’s testimony from Polk’s former wife—the only other person in the room at the time of the shooting.

Back story: Several S.F. supervisors expressed outrage after Mission Local reported that sheriff’s deputies allegedly forced women in the S.F. jail to undress and then filmed them. Supervisors called —again —for implementing oversight of the sheriff’s department.

More soon,

Sara
