Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon! Here’s the latest:

Last year’s failed California bill to let S.F. police enforce laws against selling stuff on the sidewalk without a permit has been resurrected by State Sen. Scott Weinerโ€”but not everyone’s on board. Read Oscar Palma‘s report on the politics of the street vending bill.

The city attorney has shut down three illegal gambling dens and two illegal nightclubs, including one at Mission and 29th St. that neighbors complained kept them awake with “pounding music” and after-hours parties.

SF Rec & Park has received 4,263 suggestions for naming the park formerly known as the Great Highway. Junyao Yang shares some of them, from the very basic “Ocean Beach Park” to a snarky “Freezing Your Butt Off Park” and the bitter “Recall Joel Engardio Park.” You can weigh in on the finalists beginning tomorrow.

Here’s our daily update on the 16th St. plaza: Public Works told Mission Local that the trashcan on its northeast corner was removed for a construction project and will be replaced “soon.” See today’s news and photos.

More soon,

Sara
