Good afternoon!

Well, Halloween was a blast. Take a look at this terrific photo essay of celebrations in the Mission.

Next up: Dia de los Muertos—see events listings at the bottom of this newsletter. And read our back story to learn how the tradition took root in San Francisco, and how, in the 1970s, artist Yolanda Garfias Woo taught Mission bakeries how to make pan de muertos.

We asked all the candidates for school board to tell us what makes them stand out. Only one is a public school educator…and only one (a different one) said, “I speak the truth, even when it may be controversial or unpopular.”

Citywide, just over 28% of S.F. ballots are in. If you haven’t voted yet, see our election dashboard for information and reporting on the races for mayor, supervisor, and school board; the ballot measures, and the money. Breaking news and updates are posted daily on Mission Local’s election blog. Today: Who’s behind the ad on Noe Valley’s million-dollar toilet?

More soon,

Sara
