Good afternoon!
You learn a lot about a neighborhood by hanging out in its parks. Anne Li visits a few in the Tenderloin and talks with parents, park captains, and people playing ping pong. And she finds a young woman who says she moved to the TL to get away from “drugs and bad people.”
See how they run followed mayoral candidate Daniel Lurie as he announced his plan to fight corruption in City Hall. Lurie, who’s never held political office, said that all his opponents had been fined for ethics violations. He focused on “ending money laundering through ballot measure committees,” in one of his many less-than-subtle digs at Mark Farrell.
Back story: Mark Farrell was fined in 2010 for illegal coordination with an independent expenditure committee; Aaron Peskin and Asha Safaรญ have both been fined for campaign ad violations, and London Breed got in trouble for, among other things, taking gifts from Mohammed Nuru, the former DPW boss convicted in a city-wide corruption scandal.
