Alice Bucknell – The Alluvials (2023)
The Alluvials is a new film by Alice Bucknell that explores the politics of drought and water scarcity in a near-future version of Los Angeles. The story is told through a variety of nonhuman and elemental perspectives, including the Los Angeles River, wildfire, a 400-year-old sycamore called El Aliso, and the ghost of the city’s celebrity mountain lion, P-22. Following a rich, multi-chapter narrative, Bucknell creates a world rooted in the slippery interplay between engineered ecosystems, nonhuman characters, and the natural resource market that together define the future of Los Angeles.
DELTA_ARK – Binah: Forms for Wisdom (2023)
Built in Unreal Engine 5, Binah: Forms for Wisdom is an art game that takes place in a future where human life has mysteriously vanished. Players exist as the last members of humanity, left behind in a ghost world to uncover what became of the species. The game starts on the island of ‘Binah’, a monument which recounts five ages of technological development that led to humankind’s disappearance: Climate Machines, Cryonics, Brain-Computer Interfaces, Genetic Engineering, and Spacefaring. By exploring Binah, players encounter recorded testimony from citizens of each age—like lost whispers from a future-past.
