Just two more weeks to go on our matching campaign!

Good morning!

The city’s senior home repair program, run out of MOHCD, has done repairs on just 3 homes in two yearsโ€”and keeps putting elderly applicants through interminable paperwork, inexplicable errors, and bureaucratic delays. Joe Eskenazi looks into a process so dysfunctional that at least two homeowners enrolled in the program died before repairs were even begun.

Meanwhile, fourteen luckier grandmas battledย their tamalesย againstย empanadas, andย platos de arrozย againstย short ribs,ย at an “Abuelita Cookoff” on 24th and Capp. The event was intended to boost visitors to the city-sanctioned market there, though free samples of holiday home cooking seemed more popular than vendors’ wares.

Please help Mission Local stay on top of important stories. We’re in the last couple weeks of our end-of-year fundraising campaignโ€”many thanks to everyone who’s donated so far!

More soon,

Sara
