Good afternoon, and hello Monday!
We’ve got an analysis of Mayor London Breed’s recent State of the City address, announcing new housing and economic initiatives. Look for more tax breaks in her proposal to revitalize downtown: start-ups opening offices in the city will get breaks for three years; existing retail, hotel, manufacturing, and arts and entertainment businesses will see their tax increases paused. And keep your eyes on the mayor’s “Housing for All” executive directive, with actual timelines for action, to track her ambitious plan to start building all 82,000 of the units mandated by the Housing Element.
An appeal hearing on the beer and wine license for Senegalese club and restaurant Bissap Baobab has been pushed back, giving the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control a month to investigate two neighbors’ complaints about noise. For now, at the popular Mission Street space, the world music continues. And over on Bryant, you can enjoy live flamenco at El Chato, a new Spanish tapas and wine bar. The menu features sherry, boquerones, jamon ibérico, and a range of Spanish wines, as well as something called “Ukrainian salad.”
More soon,
Sara
