A fight between two women near the Blue Macaw ended early Sunday morning with one woman stabbed and in serious condition, according to police. As of Tuesday morning, no arrests had been made and there was no update on the victim’s condition.
The victim is 23-years-old and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital Sunday morning. The suspect fled on foot, Sgt. Wilfred Williams said. He said it was unclear if the incident took place inside or just near the club.
The stabbing was the most serious crime over Valentine’s Day weekend. Others included a shooting and several hold-ups. No arrests have been made.
When a reporter knocked on the door of of the Blue Macaw Tuesday a woman answered, holding a cell phone. When asked about the stabbing, she said, “You’ve got it wrong. There was no stabbing.”
She declined to elaborate. “I don’t have time to talk about it. I’m on the phone,” she said and then closed the door.
The owner of Mike’s Liquor on the corner of Mission and 21st Streets, who declined to give his full name, said he had not heard much about the incident and wasn’t at the store when it occured.
One of his night shift employees informed him that the street had been closed off early Sunday morning. He said such incidents cause them and others in the community to lose business.
The owner of Mike’s said Macaw attracted a different crowd than the earlier earlier tenant, 12 Galaxies.
That club used to host battles of bands that drew a large punk rock crowd. The Blue Macaw uses only DJs and the crowd is younger, he said.
Mission Mission first reported the incident and the the San Francisco Examiner reported an earlier shooting incident.
One assaults and two robberies have taken place within 100 feet of the Macaw in the last 90 days, according to police.
Later Sunday morning, two men approached another male in the 1000 block of South Van Ness Street and demanded the victim’s gang affiliation. The incident ended in a shooting and non-life threatening injuries, according to police.
In other weekend crime, most suspects used their fists. At 8:20 on Sunday at 19th and Mission, police report, a suspect started a fight with another, punched him and robbed him.
That followed two similar instances in the outer Mission on Saturday afternoon — one at 2:25 p.m. and the other at 5:00 p.m. The first occurred at Mission and Silver when two suspects punched and robbed a victim and the second occurred more than a mile south at Mission and Sickles. Two men on a rampage? Who knows. No arrests were made.
