As Halloween celebrations took place over the weekend, some found themselves facing real life scares. A string of robberies, two stabbings, and two assaults occurred throughout the weekend, and one Halloween party was crashed by an unwelcome and armed guest. The good news? There was also one arrest.
Two Stabbings
The madness began in the early hours of Saturday morning with a stabbing at 24th and Treat streets. Around 1:20 a.m., a 22-year-old male was punched and stabbed in the buttocks following an altercation with a group of five men between the ages of 20-25. The victim’s injury was not life threatening and he was transported to San Francisco General hospital for treatment.
Another stabbing took place at 8:45 p.m. on Saturday night at 19th and Guerrero streets, when six males, between the ages of 16-25, attacked three 18- or 19-year-old men using a knife and a bottle. The altercation started verbally but quickly turned physical when the suspects began to strike victims with the weapons — they suffered from puncture wounds to the back and head and were taken to the hospital, while the group of suspects fled on foot.
An Unwelcome Guest
Two 22-year-old women and one 23-year-old man were hosting a house party at their residence near Capp an 20th streets when, at around 2:00 a.m. on November 1, a 20-year-old man entered the home without permission. When confronted, the suspect pulled a knife and robbed the victims — he managed to steal a smart phone, a small jewelry box, a diamond necklace, a gold chain, a gold and silver watch, and perfume, before getting away on foot.
Two Assaults
At approximately 5:50 p.m. on October 30, a 29-year-0ld male was approached by two unidentified men near the corner of Mission and 26th streets. The men stared an argument that escalated when one of the suspects hit the victim over the head with a brick. The man was transported to the hospital with a laceration to the head that was not threatening, while the suspects fled the scene on foot.
A seemingly unprovoked assault occurred near James Rolph Jr. Playground on 26th and Potrero streets on November 1. A 50-year-0ld woman was sleeping on the sidewalk at approximately 10:00 p.m. when an unidentified suspect approached her and began to attack her. The woman suffered a laceration to the head that required stitches, as well as a possible traumatic brain injury. She was transported to the hospital where she was treated for her injuries, while the aggressor got away.
Seven Robberies
A 28-year-old male was robbed at gunpoint at 16th and Harrison streets at 9:35 p.m. on Friday night. The suspect, a male between the ages of 30 and 35, approached the victim from behind, pulled out a black handgun, and proceeded to steal the victim’s jewelry and cash. The robber fled on foot.
A few hours later, at 1:05 a.m. on Saturday, 23-year-old man and was walking with a friend near 16th and Mission streets when he was approached by two men in their 30s. The suspects began to beat the victims and attempted to rob them. One of the suspects reached into the the victim’s pocket and stole his cell phone. Officers arrived at the scene while the altercation was ongoing, and arrested one suspect, who was pinning the victim down on the ground. The second suspect got away with the cell phone.
At 9:55 p.m. on Saturday evening, a 24-year-old woman was attacked from behind while reaching into her car to pick up her baby. An unidentified male pulled her away from the car from behind, hit her, and then stole her gold necklace before fleeing the scene on foot. The woman sustained an abrasion to the lip.
At 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old man were robbed at gunpoint by a group of six males in their 20s at Dolores Park. One of the suspects pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the victims, demanding their cell phones, backpack, and wallets. After stealing these items, the group of men fled the scene.
Around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, a 31-year-old man was walking on Shotwell Street between 18th and 19th when he was surrounded by 6-7 men dressed in Halloween costumes. One suspect from the group then hit the man over the head with either his fist or an unknown object, while the rest of the group rifled through his pockets and stole his wallet and cell phone. The victim received a contusion to the head, but did not seek treatment.
A few hours later, two robberies took place simultaneously at 3:15 a.m. The first occurred at 22nd and Folsom streets, when two men in their late 20s approached a 29-year-old man with a handgun. The man had been walking when one of the suspects punched him, shoved the gun in this face and stole his cell phone and wallet. Both of the suspects fled the scene.
At 16th and Mission, a 25-year-old female was approached from behind by a man in his 30s — while forcefully attempting to steal her phone, the man spun her around, causing the victim to fall backwards. The suspect retrieved her phone and ran away.
Finally, a 74- year-old man was robbed at 17th and Capp streets at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. The man accidentally dropped his jacket and money when a 30-40 year-old female picked up his property and refused to return it to him. The woman then shoved the man the elderly man to the ground before fleeing the scene.
