It’s 7 a.m. and 55°. Get ready for another clear, beautiful day in the Mission — just don’t leave the house without a sweater. Temperatures are expected to stay around 66° and wind gusts will be as high at 25 mph, making for one cool afternoon.
Trying to find housing in the Mission? Better move fast. In the city, 1,500 new apartments have become available over the last two months, and all of the projects say leasing has been stronger than expected, with rents hitting $4.50 a square foot, or higher, reports the San Francisco Business Times. Many of those projects are in the Mission, including Vara, the 194-unit project at 1880 Mission St., which is 70 percent leased.
Word around Congress is that House Minority Leader — and Mission District representative — Nancy Pelosi plans to introduce a new comprehensive immigration reform bill, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The bill includes a path to citizenship for the nation’s estimated 11 million immigrants who entered the country without authorization and is intended to “put increased pressure on Republicans.”
City College of San Francisco isn’t closing without a fight. A statewide faculty union filed a lawsuit Tuesday to try to stop a commission from revoking the school’s accreditation, which would shut down the venerated but troubled school of 80,000 students, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. The city attorney filed a similar suit in August, claiming the commission acted improperly in the year leading up to the announcement.
