A 24-year-old candidate for the Board of Supervisors has pleaded guilty to threatening District Attorney George Gascon, according to press reports.
Benjamin Castaneda, a Mission District resident, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to “attempting by threats to deter an executive officer from performing a lawful duty and pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of making criminal threats,” according to Bay City News.
Castaneda made threats to Gascon via Facebook and at his office, said Stephanie Ong Stillman, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office. Castaneda also made threats against police officers in the Mission, Stillman said.
“The fact that this person has pleaded guilty is good news for us, and hopefully he gets the help that he needs,” she said.
Castaneda filed to run for supervisor in District 9 last year to challenge the incumbent, David Campos.
“I’m fortunate to say that at the age of 23. That this time next year I will be announcing my campaign for Supervisor,” he wrote on his Facebook page in September. “Sorry, David you know I love you but I grew up here too.”
Castaneda is expected to be sentenced to three years’ probation, according to Bay City News.
