San Francisco police officers responded to a daytime stabbing in the South of Market neighborhood Friday afternoon that left one person dead.

Officers arrived at a residence on Howard Street between Fifth and Sixth streets, a block of several new market-rate residential buildings, at around 2:10 p.m. Friday, where they found a victim with multiple stab wounds, according to a department press release. Police and paramedics tried to provide lifesaving measures, but the victim died at the scene.

The San Francisco Police Department Homicide Detail is leading the investigation.

If ruled a homicide, the killing would be San Francisco’s 10th this year, according to SFPD data. There were three homicides at this time last year.

  1. Why are you mentioning market rate housing? SF Chronicle says it was at the Plaza Apartments, whose website describes it as “The Plaza has 106 studio apartments for homeless and disabled and is funded by the San Francisco Department of Health Direct Access to Housing program.” This wasn’t some Google employee.
