One tenant died in a one-alarm fire at a single-family home in the Richmond on Friday afternoon, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

At least one other tenant of the building near 26th Avenue and Geary Boulevard was evacuated. It was unclear how many tenants live in the building.

The fire department received a call at 2:11 p.m. about a fire that broke out in a house across from Fire Station 14 on 26th Avenue. The fire department arrived almost immediately, according to Lt. Mariano Elías.

When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke in the rear and the attic of the house and “encountered multiple floors on fire,” Elías said. The fire was contained at 2:30 p.m.

Firefighters found a person who lives in the home when conducting a search for victims. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

There is no more information available related to the victim, as they were “beyond recognition,” Elías said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time, he said. Traffic is closed on 26th Avenue between Geary Boulevard and Anza Street.
