Around 4 a.m. on Tuesday, San Francisco police officers assigned to Mission Station responded to a shooting on Mission Street between 18th and 19th streets, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

Officers were alerted to the scene following an activation from ShotSpotter, a gunshot detection system.

When officers arrived, they found a woman lying on the street suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers rendered aid, including CPR, and the victim was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made at this time.

This is an open and active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the SFPD at 1-415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD. You may remain anonymous.

  1. If police patrolled overnight – one car, maybe two officers – the Mission would be different. Having SOMEONE on the streets would slow down crime. Would it end it? Of course not. But it would make people think – a little – that there might be consequences for their actions. A shooting. A car crashing into a store to steal an ATM. Graffiti on the windows of a grocery store. These things all happen at night, while the police look at their phones in Mission Station. They’ve abdicated the idea of deterrence, and now only respond to crimes that have already occurred.
