Humphry Slocombe, the beloved ice cream shop at 24th and Harrison streets, is closing its doors, according to an email sent out by owners on Friday morning.
The shop’s last day will be Oct. 30, its owners wrote.
“Throughout COVID, we were able to keep all of our shops open thanks to the loyalty and support of all of you. We were especially proud of keeping our original shop at the Mission open to continue to serve our first neighborhood. However, all things must come to an end.”
Humphry Slocombe — which is named after the characters Mr. Humphries and Mrs. Slocombe in the British sitcom “Are You Being Served?” — started in 2008 with a flagship location in the Mission and became known for serving up unusual flavors: “Vietnamese coffee,” “pumpkin galette,” and “secret breakfast” are a few. Mission Local’s 2021 review said “secret breakfast” was “a delectable combination of vanilla, cornflakes, and bourbon. The presence of bourbon in a dessert was enough to make me feel like, so incredibly cool. “
The chain has nine other locations across the Bay Area, including two in San Francisco: One in the Ferry Building, and another in Dogpatch.
Its owners were not immediately available for comment.
This is a developing news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.

But why? Don’t they know Crime Is Down?
There is always a line out the door. This makes no sense.
Maybe it’s Calle 24 cramping any progress on new stores to the area? It was also right by Philz. But Mission got so anti- tech people moved out in the pandemic. 24th street seems to have gone down hill since Calle 24 (bad for business), and who wants to venture pass the 24th Bart Plaza, with all the stolen good markets & chaos. When it’s gets bad, people just forget going to certain parts of town.
I hope Dynamo Donuts doesn’t close. They are the best in town.
Love Humphrey Slocome.
I walked past them on the hottest Saturday of the year 2 weeks ago and was hoping to get a scoop but they didn’t open until 3pm.
Their other locations are more lucrative and the Mission has been one of the slowest areas to recover.
That’s a bummer. Their vanilla is really good.
