A busy street scene features colorful buildings, a theater with a sign reading "GRAND," parked cars, and vibrant, hanging papel picado.

I am a native San Franciscan. Since becoming a photographer I’ve found The City always ready for her close-up, blemishes and all. I love doing shots here— can’t let tourists have all the fun.

  1. Thank you for this picture. It captures a timeless quality. Except for the cars, this could have been 20 or 40 or 60 years ago. City staff and property developers, please take note. This picture shows us the importance of maintaining neighborly architecture. Within a few blocks of here are tall apartment buildings that were built in the same time period and fit right in. Mission Street boomed immediately after 1906 and still possesses a lot of physical charm.

    1. And you are welcome! When I was born, my family lived in what were projects on the north side of Potrero Hill where there is now a school. A trip to Market Street was something special– and for which my sisters and I would have to get “dressed up”– but for the most part our “downtown” was Mission Street. Fond memories of getting on the 22 Fillmore with Mama and getting off at 16th and Mission streets to go shopping.
