Andover Street runs straight up Bernal Hill, from its south-facing base near Highway 280 to the edge of Bernal Heights Park. Near the top, two cats have recently gotten into some mysterious trouble: Ron, an orange tabby, and Pom Pom, a bushy-tailed black-and-white.

Ron’s ailments are unknown — accident, fight, or internal illness — but the result is one fewer legs; he’s a “tripod cat,” if you’d like, but still as animated as ever around the neighborhood.

Pom Pom, who resides with two other cats on the 100 block of Andover and is known for her “big, bushy tail,” came home with an unknown tail injury. Standoff with a coyote? Perhaps. But she is now back on the streets after “some rather unhappy weeks” stuck inside.

Matthew Lasar, our Andover Street reporter, takes us behind the scenes.
