Robert remembers cold windy days in the Mission when many of its trees
were little more than promising twigs in the ground!
Since, he fell in love with the opinionated poets, artists, and eccentrics
who enlivened the Cafe La Boheme.
He hopes that others will find some of his photos as surprising as they
are to him.
Like his hero, Chiang Yee, the author of The Silent Traveller in San
Francisco, Robert enjoys being an inconspicuous observer of the world as he discovers it.
Isn't our world interesting?

Beautiful photos-happened to see you in action. Would love to see more!
In 1974, fresh out of the Army, I lived on Buchanan Street Near the U.S. Mint, and then moved down to Laguna Street where I met two women, Sylvia and Teresa, who led me to the Mission where I met Maria Luisa (Mary Lou) and moved to UC Irvine to watch her dance ballet at the school (1976) . 1977,I was back in the Mission and got a job with Linda, Oscar, Pete, Herbert and Miriam who taught me how to make silkscreen posters for Bay Area community organizations. But after all this, I moved to Mill Valley, bought a 3 bedroom condominium in San Rafael, followed a Post Office job to Portland, Oregon where I have lived 30 years, wishing I had stayed at 1146 York Street, ( at 24th Street) for all the beautiful memories living in the Mission and the Bay Area, that I had there.
Holy moly , every one of these images is a storyteller – great work!
I don’t have a problem with the low riders. But MUNI re-routed the 14 & 49 bus service to So Van Ness and didn’t notify their ridership. Dozens of us were left standing further down the line waiting for buses that never came. Hopefully, the new digital signage at the bus stands will address this lack of information.
