Cyclist Steals Phone from Moving Car

On Wednesday, a 30-year-old male bicyclist was arrested after attempting to rob a 22-year-old man sitting inside of a car driving along Valencia Street at 25th Street. The bicyclist pedaled up to the the passenger side of the moving vehicle and reached into the lowered passenger window, where the driver’s friend was sitting and using his cell phone. The bicyclist managed to snatch the phone, but lost his balance in the struggle with the passenger and crashed.

Police responding to the scene initially thought that they were responding to a hit-and-run, but after interviewing witnesses determined that the bicyclist, who sustained minor abrasions in the crash, was actually the suspect, said San Francisco Police Department Spokesperson Carlos Manfredi. Police were then able to arrest the bicyclist, whose name has not been released, and return the cell phone to its owner.

In another robbery on Wednesday, 42-year-old man was punched in the face and robbed while sitting near the intersection of 18th and Mission streets at 7:30 p.m.  The male suspect, estimated to be in his early 30s, forcefully took the victim’s cell phone and headphones before fleeing northbound on Mission Street. Police have not made an arrest.

That same evening, at 8:45 p.m., a 28-year-old man was pistol-whipped and robbed inside of his parked car at 16th Street and Potrero Avenue after giving a ride to one of his attackers. The victim reportedly picked-up up his acquaintance, the 21-year-old male suspect, in the Tenderloin and drove him to the Mission. Upon arrival, police report that a 35-year-old man jumped into the victim’s car, armed with a gun. The 35-year-old then hit the victim with the weapon before robbing him of his cash, two necklaces and cell phone with the help of the 21-year-old suspect. The two suspects then fled in a 2013 black Toyota Corolla, driving southbound on Utah Street from 16th Street, evading arrest. The injured victim refused medical attention.
