Crime sent at least one victim to the hospital over the long weekend, and left several others with losses and minor injuries.

Stabbing

Police report a stabbing occurred on Utah Street between 15th an 16th streets at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday. The victim, a 45-year-old man, was asleep in his sleeping bag when he was roused by a man in his mid-50s yelling. The sleeping man told the source of the commotion to be quiet, and the yelling man answered by pulling out a knife and cutting the victim in the face before fleeing the scene.

The victim suffered a laceration above his eye and was transported to the hospital in non-life-threatening condition. No arrest was made.

Carjacking at Gunpoint

At 4:15 a.m. on Saturday, police report that a carjacking took place at at 19th and Bryant streets. Two men, one estimated to be 19 years old and the other 30, approached a 22-year-old man sitting in his car. The victim got out of his car, and the younger man pointed a gun at him while the older approached him from behind before also drawing a gun.

The victim ran for safety, and the suspects got into the victim’s car and drove off, while the victim walked away from the scene. A reader reports hearing gunshots at that time, and that a gun was recovered from the scene the next day, but the police report makes no mention of shots fired. No injury was reported and no arrest was made.

Robbery at Gunpoint

Just minutes later, at 4:40 a.m., a 25-year-old man was standing on the corner of Cesar Chávez Street and Potrero Avenue when he was approached by a man in his 20s, who started a conversation with him. The stranger then pulled out a gun and demanded the 25-year-old’s backpack, wallet and phone, which the victim handed over. The suspect fled the scene. The victim was uninjured and the suspect evaded arrest.

Group Brawl and Robbery

In another robbery at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, which turned into something of a brawl inside a home, a 21-year-old man was led into the home of another man in his 20s through a side door. The two went up the stairs, where they met two more men, who pointed semi-automatic handguns at the guest. The suspects took his car and house keys, his garage door opener, cash and smartphone.

A friend of the victim’s arrived and picked a fight with the first suspect, while another of the three suspects fled the area. The victim pushed one of the suspects off the man who had come to his aid. Ultimately, no arrests were made and the victims’ conditions are unknown.

Hat Theft

At 8 p.m. on Monday, a 49-year-old man was walking his bike along Hartford Street near 18th Street when a man in his 30s came up and punched him in the face. The men began fighting, and the victim’s hat fell off. The suspect scooped up the hat and ran off — but the two met again down the block and began to fight anew. This time, the suspect tried to take the victim’s bicycle, but failed — and fled on foot with the hat. No arrest was made, and the victim suffered a swollen cheek.

Bike Theft

On Sunday at 4:45 a.m., a 37-year-old man and woman were sleeping in their home on Cumberland Street between Dolores and Guerrero streets. A noise woke the couple up, and the woman shouted at the source of the noise, prompting two men in their 20s to come out of the garage and then flee out the front door, stealing a bicycle in the process. No arrest was made.
