We’re publishing a new My Mission Zine in a few weeks – a sort of guide to the neighborhood, filled with thoughts from those who live here as well as maps of resources and local haunts.

We’re asking for your help to crowd source our maps!

Today map: Art in the Mission. Know any good sites we’ve left out? Let us know in the comments and we will add them.

Many thanks!

  2. Brava Theater Center, 2781 24th Street @ York. Art, History, Night and another Map for performance spaces
History, Opened as a vaudeville house, Roosevelt Theater opened on 22 September 1926 with Norma Talmadge in Kiki. It was renamed York Theater on 7 March 1962, rumored to be named after Father Peter Yorke, Pastor of St. Peter’s Church in 1914, for his work as a Labor Activist. In 1996, the 3 year shuttered theater was purchased by Brava! for Women in the Arts, non-profit performing arts organization, and renovated the venue into a performing arts center and was renamed Brava Theater Center. Brava produces some of the hottest theater and music events in the Bay Area.

  3. Is Sirron Norris still on Valencia Street, or is that just his wife’s studio now?

You are missing City Art Gallery. Paxton Gate has art and Paxton Gate’s kids store has a full gallery in front.

What about including the mural alleys – Balmy, Clarion, Lilac…? How about cafes and restaurants, such as Blue Fig, Mission Pie, etc. who always have an art show on the walls?

Alley Cat Books has a substantial gallery, too.
