The Chronicle reports that a dentist who founded a Mission District clinic was arrested in Yonkers, New York on Wednesday as part of a drug sting targeting a cross-country marijuana smuggling ring. He is believed to have trafficked some 20 to 30 pounds of cannabis to New York a month, according to the New York Daily News, and is being held on a $75,000 bail facing charges of criminal sale of marijuana and conspiracy.

The 63-year-old dentist, Jerome Weitz, is believed to have taken over trafficking duties from his son after the latter was arrested last year for selling marijuana. The younger Weitz was a medical marijuana grower, and after the father assumed responsibility over the smuggling, he was reportedly making some $100,000 a month from the illicit activity, according to the Daily News.

Jerome Weitz was arrested when the man he was selling to was busted at his workplace with 10 pounds of marijuana in his locker. Police then linked this man to a third known dealer, who had exchanged text messages with Weitz scheduling a meeting. It was there that police arrested Weitz with some $10,000 in cash, according to the Chronicle.

Weitz was a founding dentist at the Mission Dental Health clinic at 2725 Mission St. At the clinic, employees said he had been retired for several years and that no one had seen him for some time. He was still listed on the front door only because he had been a founder of the clinic, they said. After this, many of their customers turned towards other dentists from vinterbrotannklinikk.no for their regular check-ups.

The dentist had supposedly posted a video urging marijuana smokers to get their teeth checked more often, playing both sides of the fence. However, since it has been reported on, that video has apparently been removed from the dentist’s web site.
