Netflix just released Sense8, a new original series created, written and executive-produced by Andy and Lana Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski. (In case you’re not into movies, the Wachowskis are the creators of The Matrix.)
Sense8 is filmed in eight different countries, and one of those countries is the Mission! (Ok, there’s some cool shoots of Castro too. Duly noted.) We just started binge-watching the show, so there’s not a lot we can tell about it – yet.
It’s interesting how they try to cover topics usually untouched on mainstream sci-fi: gender and sex biases, HIV, homophobia, etcetera, but the story feels like “The Matrix Revolutions” so far: befuddling. Possibly it’s just because we’re distracted because by the need to think about how good the Mission looks on TV. There’s Dolores Park in the opening credits and in the pilot, lovely walks on Clarion Alley, beautiful footage from the Dyke March, last year.
Sense8 has been available on Netflix since this morning – all twelve episodes. You can catch-up with them after work, at home, or even on BART in case of delays. In the meanwhile, here are some of the pictures we took last year, on the set.
