The end of the month apparently also marked the end of a popular franchise on 16th Street. The McDonald’s at 2011 Mission St. closed its doors Monday after rumors that its lease expired.
“We heard that they didn’t get the lease back,” said Fabiola Aragon, who works at the Smoker Friendly shop two doors down. “But we don’t know anything. This is just from customers who come in.”
Visitors to the shuttered doors can expect paper notices telling them of the restaurant’s closure and directing them to the chain’s other nearby locations, as well as thanking them for their business over the years.
No one seemed to know much about the closure, but SocketSite reported that employees were told the lease had expired and that they would be transferred to other branches in the city.
It’s unclear why the store’s lease wasn’t renewed, and SocketSite reports that no plans for the site or the storefront have been filed with the city.
This is a developing story and we will update when we know more.
